FAMILY FEST- 16th July 2020
While the rest of the world spend their days away from human interactions, the English department of Sacred Heart College came together in celebration with a family fest under the veil of protection of their own homes. The fest held on 16th July 2020 presented the family members of both students and teachers with the unique opportunity of sharing their talents though Google meet. The turnouts for the program were baffling as enthusiastic members of all ages ranging from four to fifty joined hands and seized the opportunity to contribute to the meet's success.
The program kicked off with a welcome by Mrs.Ancy (Rosma's mother) followed by speeches chanted by Mrs.Shashikala (Sukanya's mother) and Mr Mathew(Kripa's father). The musical performances were particularly delightful as Mrs. Neesa(Sameera's mother), Dylan (Sunil sir's son), Laya(Tom sir's daughter) and Samariya Saji (daughter of Anju Joseph) left the audience spellbound with their sweet songs while Alfin Saagi (Austin's brother) proceeded to entertain the crowd with his piano skills. Devakrishna (Athul's brother) and Milon (Bijo sir's son) recited melodious poetries after which it was story time with Siddarth ( Shijo sirs son). The program came to a wrap on an energetic note with two dance performances by Sera Mathew( Kripa's sister) and Angela ( Andrea's sister). The program was a real shot at innovation aiming to show the society the infinite potential of online platforms in bringing people together and sparking hope even in the midst of a pandemic.

MERITS AND DEMERITS OF ONLINE EDUCATION- PANNEL DISCUSSION- 10th July 2020
Online education plays a major role in helping individuals access the learner-centred and self-centred instruction. Online learning fits into the busy lives of the students, thereby making it easier for them to continue their further education. The limitations posed by a traditional method of learning are encouraging more and more students to opt for online learning programs. This is something that is certainly not called for especially in today’s world where almost everything can be done with the click of button.
The panel discussion event took place on 10 July 2020 through an online platform by the department of English, Sacred Heart College. The discussion was on the topic "Merits and Demerits of Online Education" , held in the presence of a chief guest, Sr. Sonia, assistant professor, department of English, Nirmalagiri College Kannur. The discussion was coordinated by Fr. Sabu Thomas and a welcome was given by Sneha. Minna Andrews assummed the role of a moderator who updated the platform by giving all the panellist's key points and encouraged the audience to share their views on Online Learning as well.
Moderator introduced the various speakers in the panel. Panellists who discussed the demerits of Online Education were Elizabeth Thomas, Donna Ann George and Aswijith. Elizabeth Thomas went on to highlight the negative impact of the learning environment and how people were more susceptible to cheating by using social media. Donna Ann George noted about the bad network connection which prevents one from accessing anything and Aswijith also raised points about the network problems which disrupt the connection between the computer and the content that one is trying to access. Panellists Sukanya V Mohan and KS Yedusree, discussed the merits of Online Education. Sukanya V Mohan noted the convenience and flexibility of online classes. Yedusree discussed about the future possibilities of online platform and it's endless potential. She outlined the importance of online classes in case of emergency situations such as the one we are going through right now. The moderator then opened the floor to questions and comments for the audience. She then concluded the session by acknowledging the contributions of the panellists and audience members. Anagha Stephen thanked all the participants for their support.
English Association Inauguration 2020 July 3rd
The size of your problem is nothing compared to your ability to solve them, the English department of Sacred Heart College has proven it. In spite of all the difficulties of covid season, English association inauguration was conducted through an online platform for the first time in history on July 3, 2020.
The programme started with a prayer song chanted as gratitude to the gods. Fr Sabu Thomas kicked off the function with a welcome speech followed by an inaugural speech by Fr Prashant, our respected principal. He enlightened us with his words of wisdom which were on how to be a perfect student. Dr. K. M. Johnson , the head of a department advised the students to utilise the association events to develop our skills and gave us ideas to conduct more such outreach programs as literature students and further went on to introduce the chief guest Professor Jayaram. Jayaram sir is a retired professor from our college responsible for a number of art works which adorn the college halls and gardens. He gave us a scintillating speech in which he sparked the minds of the students while talking about the importance of literary theories and it's applications on the research fields of the literary world . We all felt blessed for the opportunity to see him in action.
Teachers and students made the evening more eventful by showcasing their outstanding talents. Professor Shijo Varghese played flute to the song "lokam muzhuvan sukham pakaranayi" as a prayer for the recovery of the whole world from the covid pandemic . All the students enthusiastically joined hands for an excellent cultural fest where Austin played guitar and dazzled everyone with his guitar skills, Yedhusree recited an informative speech on ' Thé rising issue of War Between India and China'. Rizva, Sukanaya and Gautham pulled several heart strings with their soothing voices and melodies. Other events of the day included a mesmerizing dance by Andrea and a poetry recitation by Meera about the way things and perspectives change in the transition from childhood to adulthood.
A literary quiz was was also conducted by the PG students in which everyone participated with great vigor and enthusiasm. Finally Anagha Stephen delivered the vote of thanks and the function was wrapped up with everyone feeling warm and happy inside after being able to see their friends and teachers perform their talents and impart knowledge during such difficult times.
