Radio Drama in Kochi FM by IPG Students

On 18th January 2021, at 8.05 pm, Kochi FM air streamed the radio drama by first year PG students of English Department, SH College, Thevara.

 English association published its Sophomore Journal- Koppee 2020 on 24 th December 2020. The journal contains of the activities of the English association during June - December 2020 and few creative writing  by the students of English Department. The journal was released online by HoD Dr. K.M. Johnson

Shakespeare Quiz on 31st October 2020

 

An online Shakespeare Quiz competition was organized by the English department of Sacred

Heart College, Thevara on 31st October 2020. It was a three-stage competition. There was a

total of four teams from first year PG, third year UG, second year UG, and 1st year UG. Fr

Sabu was the quiz master.

In the first round of the competition the logical intellect of the participants was debriefed. Each

team was given the picture of a scene from Shakespeare's drama and they were asked to

identify the particular drama. In the second round they were again given scenes from

Shakespeare's drama from which they had to identify the particular drama and the characters in

the picture. In the third round opening lines of certain dramas were given and the members

were asked to identify the dramas. In the fourth round lines of certain dramas were given and

they were asked to type the answers in chat box. The last round was based on Shakespeare& his

life and education.

PG 1st year students were leading the competition in almost all rounds and they were declared

the winner of the competition. The competition was very thrilling and exciting and was a huge

triumph. It helped the participants to revise and also add up more knowledge about

Shakespeare.

Leo Tolstoy- 110th death anniversary

English First PG students played a radio drama on the 110th anniversary of the demise of Leo Tolstoy. The drama was of 45 minutes duration. The short story of Tolstoy titled "How much Land Does a Man Need" was adapted into a drama for by the students themselves and enacted as a Radio Drama. The event took place on 20/11/2020 6.30 pm. 70 Participants were joined on google meet platform to listen to the drama. Fr. Joseph Kusumalayam took initiative for conducting the event

Teachers' Day Celebrations

 

Teachers day was celebrated on 4th September 2020 all across the country to commemorate the life of Dr. S.Radhakrishnan. English association came up with a few innovative ideas to make the day colourful and live. The first years were invited for an essay competition on the topic "My Favourite Teacher". All the freshers enthusiastically sharpened their pens and expressed their writing skills  as it was a chance to scribble something serious after a long gap of unprecedented vacation. Nandanalaksmi M, Jijikumar Velaydhan and Gouri R bagged First, Second and Third prizes. 

Special wishing cards were made for all the teachers of the department with their photos and were sent to them by mail and whats app. Nikhil of third U.G. designed all the cards exhibiting  his exuberant artistic talents into each and everyone of them. A video compiling all these cards was prepared by Athul of Second Year U.G. 

The association also made the day eventful by each and every student sending an email to the principal wishing him teachers' day greetings as it could be his last teachers' day in the campus since he is retiring at the end of this academic year.

“A teacher is the one who illuminates both the mind and heart of a child”

 

I still remember the first day with which I was taken to the corridors of an unknown place, with darts of felicitations, loud cries of little kids like me, and colors of rainbow balloons all around. It was a fresh dawn of school-life, that became splendid with a cluster of wonderful people. From the pre KG teachers who held our little hands to the world of alphabets and numerals, to the faculties of Science batch who guided us to handle the potentiometer and pipettes with precision, I’ve got many teachers with unique styles who gifted the same essence of love and compassion.

The glitters of my most favorite Ranjitha teacher who led our class in both grades 3 and 4, is always exceptional. She is one of the most vibrant women I’ve seen so far, who brought up all the potentials in me. She instilled confidence, directed us to read more and would always say; “Each bit of paper you read, is an ocean of knowledge”. She portrayed the influence of Science from the boiling point of a bed coffee to the expanded rotations of a regulator that enriched her classes with fun and fascinations and I always had an alacrity to listen to them.

She taught us the lessons of life and boosted courage to overcome any fear. She guided us to become independent by being self- motivated, and her words always give a positive aura for me. During all walks of my life, Ranjitha teacher is my constant companion and a solution to any scrapes or squeezes. Even after these long nine years, her tutelage, maternal affection and stimulus emanates those evocations again and again.

It is absolutely true that teachers affect the eternity and no one can tell where their influence stops. On this occasion, I profusely thank all our teachers for their unvarying buttress and unalloyed love. Once again, HAPPY TEACHERS DAY to all those ineffable hearts.
