Debate on Reliability of social media when used for public support- 21/03/2021

 On 21 March 2021, a debate competition was organised by English Association of Sacred Heart College, Thevara. The topic of the competition was " Reliability of social media when used for public support". The debate competition was held under the guidance of Association Coordinator Fr. Sabu Thomas and moderated by Prof. Simon Peter.


As the competition started, we could see all the participants were geared and fully passionate to win. They were well prepared. They displayed confidence in presenting their arguments. Some of the participants argued for the motion and some against the motion. All the participants exhibited oratory skills and displayed their knowledge. There were so many notable points presented by each team. They proved their points in such a manner that the audience were convinced. 

The faculty of English Dept, 
Tom.C.Thomas spoke on the topic and gave relevant ideas regarded on the same. At the end of the debate, the audience were asked to vote for the best debator. Jithin was selected as the best debator. And, finally the team speaking against the motion was selected as the winners. At last, the programme was concluded with a vote of thanks by K.S Yedhushree, Second year BA English..

Model United Nations- 28th January 2021

 








Report on Model UN 
A session of Model United Nations was held on the 28th of January 2021 as part of the activities of the English Association. The event was conducted on Google Meet and was organized by the 1st year B.A. English students with active support and participation from the students of the Sociology and Mathematics department. 17 students from the three departments represented the various delegates from different countries. They presented their opinions and standpoints on the topic “Disease Control and Management during humanitarian crisis”. The ideas presented were extremely perceptive and thought-provoking and served as a true testament to the efforts taken by all the participants.

Publication of Koppee- Association Sophomore Journal- 24th Dec. 2020

 English association published its Sophomore Journal- Koppee 2020 on 24 th December 2020. The journal contains of the activities of the English association during June - December 2020 and few creative writing  by the students of English Department. The journal was released online by HoD Dr. K.M. Johnson

Shakespeare Quiz on 31st October 2020


 

An online Shakespeare Quiz competition was organized by the English department of Sacred
Heart College, Thevara on 31st October 2020. It was a three-stage competition. There was a
total of four teams from first year PG, third year UG, second year UG, and 1st year UG. Fr
Sabu was the quiz master.
In the first round of the competition the logical intellect of the participants was debriefed. Each
team was given the picture of a scene from Shakespeare's drama and they were asked to
identify the particular drama. In the second round they were again given scenes from
Shakespeare's drama from which they had to identify the particular drama and the characters in
the picture. In the third round opening lines of certain dramas were given and the members
were asked to identify the dramas. In the fourth round lines of certain dramas were given and
they were asked to type the answers in chat box. The last round was based on Shakespeare& his
life and education.
PG 1st year students were leading the competition in almost all rounds and they were declared
the winner of the competition. The competition was very thrilling and exciting and was a huge
triumph. It helped the participants to revise and also add up more knowledge about
Shakespeare.


Leo Tolstoy- 110th death anniversary

English First PG students played a radio drama on the 110th anniversary of the demise of Leo Tolstoy. The drama was of 45 minutes duration. The short story of Tolstoy titled "How much Land Does a Man Need" was adapted into a drama for by the students themselves and enacted as a Radio Drama. The event took place on 20/11/2020 6.30 pm. 70 Participants were joined on google meet platform to listen to the drama. Fr. Joseph Kusumalayam took initiative for conducting the event
